Somehow we managed to finish the set as we were exhausted from recording all weekend but we played a few new songs that are more sprightly so that was encouraging.

Excited to finally unleash them at some point.

I saw them in concert and the whole show began with a talent show. Their tour incorporated a different children’s choir from each city and each show ended with all 25 people on stage slowly pretend dying by laying down on stage. And there was a fog machine. Awesome.

The album wound up not being as amazing as these videos (how do you take the children’s choir out out “In The Room Where You Sleep”?), but these are amazing videos and the album has one of my favorite songs of the year, “Pa Pa Power”.

Excited to post songs that came out well when we complete them!

Here we go Magic

The below passage is from “Breakfast of Champions” (written in 1973) and typifies why I love him so:

“And two young black prostitutes materialized from nowhere. They asked Trout and the manager if they would like to have some fun. They were cheerful and unafraid – because of a tube of Norwegian hemorrhoid remedy which they had eaten about half and hour before. The manufacturer had never intended the stuff to be eaten. People were supposed to squirt it up their assholes.

They were country girls. They had grown up in the rural south of the nation, where their ancestors had been used as agricultural machinery. The white farmers down there weren’t using machines made out of meat anymore, though, because machines made out of metal were cheaper and more reliable, and required simpler homes.”
